Originally performed on stage, Windmill Theatre Company's Rumpelstiltskin is making its way to the Roxbylink Cinema!
This latest imagining of the mischievous imp was filmed by Australian National Theatre Live, and will be presented to the people of Roxby Downs for Book Week.
According to Country Arts SA's Arts Programming Manager, Louisa Norman, the original stage production had a successful run in Adelaide back in 2016, and if you think you know the story of Rumpelstiltskin - think again!
"It's actually really different! It's an original work that was devised by Windmill Theatre Company,
"All the songs are brand new and original... it's definitely something a bit different to the traditional fairytale, it's something really fresh and modern.
"It's a mixture of theatre, music, song, dance, and a good dose of humour!"
While it was originally performed on stage, Louisa said it has transitioned well to the screen.
"What the audiences in Roxby will see will feel like a film, but it's also clear that it was a piece of theatre. You see the big, big sets and bright costumes, and amazing lighting and sound effects, and then you experience all that on screen!"
But for those parents taking their children to a screening of Rumpelstiltskin, Louisa assures you the play has something for all ages.
"There's a level that audiences can access if they're adult, and there's a level for kids,
"A little bit of cheeky innuendo that would go over the kids' heads but adults would appreciate.
"It's a real 'one-for-all-the-family,' I think."
