RoxFM takes out an SA Great Regional Award! November 3, 2009

A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes out to RoxFM - as well as the Roxby Downs Community - following our huge success at the SA Great Regional Awards in Port Augusta this November.

RoxFM took out the Sustainability Award for the Far North Region - in reflection of RoxFM's many recycling initiatives as well as its weekly environmental radio show - Eco Hour.

Receiving the award was not only a huge achievenment for RoxFM, but it was a great opportunity to acknowledge the immense support that the community has given the program.

RoxFM's station coordinator, Kristina Meredith, and DJs Tracey and Tristan Warneke and Tim West travelled to Port Augusta to attend the awards.

A huge CONGRATS also goes out to Tim (you'd know him as Conrad on The Pommy Show) who took out the Youth Award for the region.

RoxFM goes Hair-larious for Hairlarious Hair Day! June 12, 2009

RoxFM DJs donned wigs, hats, beards and other wierd and wonderful accessories for Hairlarious Hair Day, June 12.

The cause: raising money for the Childhood Cancer Association.

We raised around $50 and had heaps of fun in the process. Check out the photos in our gallery!

RoxFM gets a facelift! - April 2009

It's been a long time coming, but the RoxFM office has finally received its much anticipated facelift.

The walls have been painted, the furniture replaced/sanded back and repolished, and there has been a lot of attention paid to redecorating and adding little personal touches.

Thanks to Jean Dunstan who lent us her time and equipment and to Ray Goldie, Stewart Jones, Joseph Steinhauser and Kristina Meredith who all helped out and donated their valuable time.

Also many thanks to Roxby Traders Mitre 10, who donated paint and equipment.

The station now has a new look and exciting feel - be sure to pop in and check it out!

RoxFM goes GREEN - April 1, 2009

Don’t throw those printer cartridges, mobile phones and batteries away!

RoxFM … in conjunction with Planet Ark … now has a collection box for all of your unwanted printer cartridges, laser toner cartridges, drum units, copier bottles and more.
These items will later be sent away to be recycled with zero
waste for landfill.

RoxFM is also working in conjunction with the Roxby Downs Environment Forum to recycle old batteries.

Batteries contain many toxic chemicals which can be harmful to humans and the environment when not disposed of correctly. All batteries collected will be taken to a recycling point where they will be stripped and made ready for re-use in a range of areas such as battery production and stainless steell fabrication.

We'll take all standard household and mobile phone batteries.

RoxFM has ALSO (yes, also) joined forces with Mobile Muster to collect all old mobile phones and mobile phone accessories. These are taken away to be stripped and turned into things like plastic fence posts, jewellery and stainless steel items.

So don’t throw those cartridges, phones and batteries away – drop them off for recycling at RoxFM!

RoxFM is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm.
To arrange out-of-hours drop off … please call Kristina on
8671 2545.

SA Great Regional Awards - November 19, 2008

Congratulations to RoxFM Youth Presenter Casey Potts, who won an SA Great Award in the Youth Category!

Casey is an important part of the local media in Roxby Downs. The past year has seen her put considerable effort into learning the behind the scenes tasks in the local community radio station to ease the workload on the other station volunteers. Casey  has also thrown her energy into designing and creating artwork that will become a focal point for RoxFM and will be displayed as a unique representative piece in the 2008 SA Community Broadcasters Association Conference.

RoxFM's team, The Bohemian Beatmix, raised over $4500 for the Cancer Council in the lead up to Roxby's first ever Relay For Life Event.

There was plenty of flower power, inner spirit and generally good vibes as RoxFM pooled resources to host a Bonfire Night, and hold a stall at both the Car Boot Sale and a garage sale.

On October 11 and 12, RoxFM attended the Cancer Council's Relay For Life event held on the Roxby Downs Oval. We laughed, we cried, we played music and games, chilled out, and celebrated the gift of life and the huge amount of hope that was seen throughout the night.

A groovin' time was had by all, and RoxFM would like to thank all of the Roxby Downs community who contributed funds, time or secondhand goods for such a worthwhile cause.
